If you've decided that you do want to join a club you'll have to decide which club is right for you. Each one will have different characteristics.
Club Size - Bigger clubs can have more consistent events and participation. Smaller clubs might offer a better experience on the trail.
Age of Members - The average age of the club members will allow you to find everything from twenty-somethings to retirees who are members of clubs. Some clubs encourage kids and others prefer to have minimal liability.
The point is, you will probably feel most comfortable in a club where members are closer to your age. Younger clubs tend to travel the more difficult trails. Older clubs tend to travel farther from home and participate in more overnight activities.
Level of Participation - Some clubs require a certain amount of participation. Be sure you find out if there are such requirements before you commit.
Trips & Events - Some clubs like to do longer, overnight trips while some like to do random day trips. Find out what kind of events they do so you'll know if they jive with your preferred offroading methods.
In sum, organized four wheeling gives you an opportunity to fine-tune your off-road driving skills in a safer environment while providing you with an opportunity to meet other people with similar interests as yourself. Be sure to look around for the right club for you - one that meets your techniques and personal requirements.
