The folks in Oregon have made clear their intentions to make their voice heard when it comes to ATV and OHV legislation for the area.
The Siuslaw National Forest will be hearing from offroading proponents about where ATV trails should be allowed in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA).
At the forefront of the discussions in a June 5 meeting was the local economic imact that the ATV and offroading industry would bring to the area. According to a 2009 Oregon State University study prepared for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, ATV-related tourism in 2008 generated about $250 million.
Also of note was the discussion about how crowding the thousands of OHVers into smaller and smaller areas was creating unnecessary safety risks.
I've said it before; money talks! ATVs create revenue. The amount of revenue that is generated by ATVs and offroading in local communities is substantial and should not be overlooked.
Not only that but it's good for strengthening family bonds. I can tell you from personal experience that spending time with family on the trail with an ATV can be extremely rewarding and has a huge impact on family ties.
