Male

...employed full-time
...with a higher than average income
...who views himself as a rugged individualist

As a group, "large 4WD" owners were determined by a Roy Morgan Research survey to be:

  • more overweight
  • more aggressive
  • less tolerant
  • less community minded
  • more likely to suffer road rage
  • less charitable
  • more likely to use force to get their way
  • more likely to be involved in accidents that kill or maim people in other vehicles
  • more likely to prefer beer

The survey, conducted in 2003-04, studied 24,718 people aged 14 and over.

On the other hand, drivers of "luxury 4WDs" were determined by the same study to be more likely:

Female
...aged 30-40.

As a group, "luxury 4WD" owners were determined by the Roy Morgan Research survey to be:

  • more materialistic
  • less overweight
  • more likely to say, "I was born to shop."
  • more likely to purchase their favorite brand regardless of price
  • more likely to prefer wine and spirits
