Navigation is the science of knowing where you are in the process of getting yourself from A to B in the most desirable way to accommodate your purposes. 

Whether you're in the deep woods, or just traveling unfamiliar territory, navigation in and out of such locations can be difficult. To lessen the margin of error, navigation of your off-highway route should preplanned as much as possible.
