Ride Description:
I love CJ5 very much. After my 1977 blue CJ5 (BelBon) needs
to retired, I bought this 1979 CJ5 from a friend. Originally it came
with a 232 cid in-line 6, Dana 30 front axle, AMC 20 rear axle, and
transmission equipped with Dana 300 transfer case. With the stock composition,
the vehicle is already nice. However, I want to have a beast CJ5, just
like my old BelBon. So I replace the engine with a 258 cid equipped
with MSD 6AL ignition. I did not change the transmission since it is
already a powerful transmission with a 2.72 low gear ratio, hence I
replace the rear axle with a Detroit equipped Dana 44 with a 4.27 gear
ratio. The front axle remains Dana 30, I only change the gear ratio
from stock to 4.27.
For recovery I use Warn 8274 in front and Ramsey 8,000 lbs on the rear.
The tires I use are 33" Simex Jungle Trekker 2.
In near future I plan to install a limited slip differential in the
front axle and replace the engine with fuel-injected AMC in-line 6 found
in Jeep Cherokee (XJ). |
