Auto Revista (2000)
Imagine the power and performance from a BMW sports car. Nice, huh? Put that feel and spirit in an SUV and you'll get the X5.

Auto Revista (2000)
In launching X5, BMW is filling a missing gap in the automotive world. It's a market sliver that falls between the sport wagon and the sport utility vehicle. BMW calls their invention the world's first Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV).

Canadian Driver (2000)
It features a fully independent suspension, all-wheel-drive, a 282 horsepower 4.4 litre V8 engine, 5-speed 'Steptronic' automatic transmission, 18 inch tires and alloy wheels, and an optional Navigation system.

Car Trackers (2000)
The X5 is about seven inches taller than the 5 series sedan yet it is about the same length.

Cars Everything (2000)
It is the first SUV-like vehicle to actually handle like a sports sedan (which is just as well, since the X5 is loosely based on the BMW 5-series sedan, which is one of the best handling sports sedans on the market).

Epinions (2000)
See what owners of the 2000 BMW X5 have to say about their vehicle -- the good and the bad.

Motor Trend (2000)
The X5 4.4i is handsome, quick, great-performing, roomy, and certainly technology-laden. It offers a lot of positive SUV features, including tall seating positions, space way in back for a couple of Labrador retrievers, and the capability to tow three tons of toys.

New Car Test Drive (2000)
The X5 is immediately recognizable as a BMW. In fact it looks like a 540i wagon on steroids - and it is remarkably close in overall size. The major difference is that it is 10 inches taller.

The Car Connection (2000)
Independently suspended at all four wheels, the X5 has virtually flawless road manners.

The Car Connection (2000)
It aims to conquer bad roads, not the off-road.

The Car Connection (2000)
An important part of the X5’s handling will also be the use of the various electronic stabilizing systems, such as ASC (Automatic Stability Control), DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), CBC (Cornering Brake Control), DBC (Dynamic Brake Control), ADB (Automatic Differential Brake), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assistant), and HDC (Hill Descent Control).

USA Today (2000)
BMW's X5 delivers more sport than utility.

Woman Motorist (2000)
BMW is setting the standard for elegant utility.
