- Higher seating position for a better view of the road, traffic, and surroundings
- Larger and heavier than most cars for added security
- Perceived as being safer in crashes - heavier vehicles typically fare better in crashes
- Better handling in inclement weather conditions
- Lots of interior room
- Extra cargo room for plenty of storage
- Capability for off-road driving
- Meet the needs of the entire family with one vehicle
- Though few actually use it, having 4-wheel drive appeals to concerns of security and safety
- Ideal for busy people who work hard and play hard
- Ability to traverse roads that most cars can´t navigate

- Difficult to climb into
- Aggravating to maneuver through crowded parking lots
- Impossible to park in tight spaces
- Expensive to fill with gas
- Sometimes bumpy to ride
- Tricky to handle, especially on turns
- Threat of rollovers due to high center of gravity
- Wider blind spots
