2003 Wrangler Rubicon

The Bottom Line

Perhaps the best part is that the Jeep Rubicon is set up for heavy-duty trail use right from the start, with no aftermarket add-ons required! Overall, the 2003 Jeep Wrangler is more more comfortable, more convenient, more responsive, and more capable than ever before.
Pros
  • Standard 4-wheel disc brakes are self-cleaning
  • New 4-speed automatic transmission
  • Maneuverability and off-road performance
Cons
  • Interior is plain and purely utilitarian
  • Soft top is a handful to manipulate
  • Stiff, choppy ride with slow steering

Description

  • Powerful 4.0-liter engine provides 190 horsepower and 235 lb.-ft of torque
  • T-case with 4.0:1 low range (previous version was 3.73:1), delivering more power at the slow speeds
  • More than 10 inches of ground clearance on a short (93.4-inch) wheelbase
  • Locking differentials can be actuated when the t-case is in low range and speed is less than 10 mph
  • Dana model 44 axles that are built to be strong enough to handle all manner of off-road conditions
  • Goodyear MT/R 31-inch tires feature large lugs, the tread wraps around the sidewall to grab ledges
  • 16-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels with a dished face to protect them from debris and obstacles
  • Safety equipment includes: next generation front-seat airbags, LATCH child seat safety
  • Approach: 45-degree, Departure: 34 degree, Ramp Breakover: 25-degree angle
  • A torque-sensing limited-slip feature on rear axle provides better traction on the road.
