The Bottom Line

While it lacks some functionality compared to some units, it still provides everything needed to get you from point A to point B. Its small, compact size, makes it ideal for hikers more than drivers.
Pros
  • Extremely lightweight and compact
  • 12-channel parallel receiver system
  • Free regular software updates from Garmin
Cons
  • Reception is weak in woods or inside vehicle
  • Lack of mapping features; no built-in street maps
  • Does not support an external antenna

Description

  • Designed with backpackers, hikers and climbers in mind
  • Simple interface with only five buttons
  • Functions are easy to learn and remember

Guide Review - Garmin eTrex (Standard model)

A great entry level GPS that's perfect for beginners or for someone wanting to spend fewer dollars that the "feature heavy" models that are available. Don't let that fool you though. This model will do what most people primarily use a GPS for, getting from point A to point B.
