In 2004 the Chevy Colorado pickup truck replaced the S-10 pickup which had a 22 year run in the Chevrolet truck lineup. Colorado is the 5th all-new Chevy truck since the debut of Avalanche in 1999.

What Makes The Colorado Unique?

Here are the top features and options that make the Colorado stand out among other pickup trucks:

  • Colorado is first in its class with optional roof rail side air bags.

  • A battery saver system is standard on Colorado.

  • Colorado was designed to be the smoothest, quietest pickup in its class.

  • In addition to 25 more horsepower, the I5 engine promises 3 mpg better fuel economy over the V6 it replaces.

  • Locking rear differential on both 2WD and 4WD models.

  • Special performance enhancements have been made to the steering and suspension.

  • It has a heavy-duty brake setup for rough work applications and overall safety.

  • Colorado has a unique, two-position tailgate that can be secured in a partially open position.

  • Available for the first time on a GM pickup are head-protecting curtain side airbags that cover all seating rows.

  • Options include heated seats, the OnStar safety & security system, XM Satellite Radio, and a driver information system including an oil life monitor.

  • Two upright seats in the rear of the extended cab model are much easier and more comfortable to use than the S-10’s fold-down jump seats.

  • Its bed is also wider and deeper than the model it replaces.

  • Fuel economy is noteworthy, for example the 4WD Colorado boasts a government rating equal to other 2WD trucks in its class.

  • There are three cab choices (regular, extended and crew cab) that can seat from 2 to 6 passengers.

  • Both the 4- and 5-cylinder inline engines simultaneously deliver greater horsepower and greater fuel economy, making them among the most advanced engines in the world.

  • Colorado is bigger than the S-10 it replaced, though it's still considered a "compact" or "mid-sized" truck.
