Camp Jeep
A Virginia Event for the Entire Family

From , former About.com Guide

Each summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, DiamlerChrysler hosts Camp Jeep for Jeep owners and their families. The event provides numerous opportunities for you to learn more about your new (or old!) Jeep. There are also opportunities for off-roading with professionals, and lots other outdoor activities for the entire family. The price of just over $400 per Jeep includes admission for all who can fit inside your Jeep (and be secured by a seatbelt!), as well as participation in all of the weekend's activities, and a couple meals. Your only additional expense would be your lodging at a nearby campground or hotel.

The 10th annual Camp Jeep gathering of Jeep vehicle owners is a great family getaway with activities that include Jeep 101 Courses, 4x4 Trail Rides, Engineering Roundtables, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, the white knuckle Rubicon Challenge and much more!

WHEN: July 15-17, 2004
WHERE: Blue Ridge Mountains, VA

Little Known Facts:

  • Despite the name of the event, you don't have to "camp" in order to participate. There's actually no camping at the Camp Jeep site itself, but there are lots of nearby campgrounds to choose from if you prefer "roughing it" to staying at a nearby hotel.

  • Some activities (4x4 trails, kayaking, and Engineering Roundtables) require advance reservations. Once you register, details will be mailed to you. All other activities require that you sign up on-site the day of the event. To accomodate the large number of people that attend Camp Jeep, many events are scheduled to take place more than once throughout each day.

  • Children and adults of all ages are encouraged to participate. Some activities do have an age limit, and a parent or guardian must accompany children under 18 years of age at all times.

  • For the "4x4 trails" activities, there are three types of trails rated "scenic," "intermediate," and "difficult". A Jeep 4WD vehicle is required no matter which type of trail(s) you choose, and the number of passengers per vehicle is limited only by the number of seatbelts.

  • The Jeep 101 Instructional Course is a basic "how-to" for off-road beginners. You'll learn how to handle Jeep vehicles (all of which are supplied) in various off-highway conditions.

  • While pets are not allowed on the grounds at Camp Jeep, there are kennels in the area. Once you register, they will provide you with a list of places you can board your pet while you're participating in the activities.
At the Camp Jeep website, you can find out more about the activities and events that are scheduled for the entire family. Don't forget to check out their online video and photo gallery of previous Camp Jeep events. And, there's even an early bird registration package if you sign up before February 29th!
